One Voice for the Entire Sector
To promote excellence in Kenya’s public transport sector by providing a forum for operators and investors to exchange skills, knowledge, and ideas.
The Federation of Public Transport Sector (FPTS) is the national apex lobby group registered under the Societies Act Cap 108, representing the rights and interests of Public Service Vehicle investors across Kenya.
We are the unified voice of Kenya’s public transport operators — driving policy reform, modernization, safety, dignity, and sustainable progress for operators, commuters, and communities nationwide.
To promote excellence in Kenya’s public transport sector by providing a structured platform for operators and investors to exchange knowledge, skills, and ideas.
“One voice, one route, one future.”
To be Kenya’s leading and most trusted voice in shaping a safe, efficient, technology-driven, and sustainable public transport sector.
Rooted in our 2023 Amended Constitution, these nine pillars guide Kenya’s public transport sector toward safety, professionalism, sustainability, and unity.
We serve as the unified voice of the public transport sector, engaging national and county governments to harmonise policies, streamline regulations, and ensure equitable representation of operators and investors at every decision-making table. Our advocacy drives reforms that reduce bureaucracy, protect livelihoods, and align the industry with Vision 2030 and the Big Four Agenda.
Road safety is non-negotiable. Through strict adherence to traffic laws, promotion of defensive driving, adoption of vehicle safety technologies, and collaboration with NTSA and county enforcement units, we are building a culture where every journey ends safely — protecting passengers, drivers, and pedestrians alike.
We are transforming matatu and bus crews from drivers into respected transport professionals. Through accredited training programs, continuous skills upgrading, customer service excellence, and career progression pathways, we elevate standards and restore public trust in the sector.
Modern fleets require modern financing. We partner with banks, SACCOs, development funds and government programs to deliver affordable asset finance, fleet renewal incentives, insurance solutions, and investment frameworks that make upgrading vehicles profitable and sustainable.
From dedicated bus lanes and modern terminals to cashless fare systems and real-time passenger information, we champion the rollout of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), metro solutions, route rationalisation, and Intelligent Transport Systems that move Kenya forward — efficiently and predictably.
Kenya’s future is electric and low-emission. We lead the transition to cleaner fuels, electric matatus and buses, charging infrastructure, and climate-resilient operations — ensuring public transport plays its full role in achieving net-zero goals while reducing operating costs for operators.
True transformation happens together. We institutionalise continuous, structured collaboration between operators, investors, national and county governments, and development partners — co-designing policies, implementing projects, and jointly monitoring outcomes for lasting impact.
A divided sector cannot win. We foster dialogue, mediate disputes, and build consensus among associations, operators, and stakeholders — ensuring the entire industry speaks with one strong, respected voice on national stages.
Strong institutions demand strong governance. We uphold transparency, accountability, democratic elections, financial prudence, and ethical leadership — setting the standard for how transport associations should be run across Kenya.
